AMVETS Florida Post 1776 held its
charter meeting at 241 Lake Ella Drive in Tallahassee, Florida, at
10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 11 July 2009. The meeting was officiated
by
Past Department Commander William R. McRoberts, Executive Director,
assisted by Florida Department Public Relations Officer and District
XIV Commander James Lawlor, Sr., and other Department of Florida
representatives. After some general information about AMVETS was
presented, the post number 1776 was selected with one dissenting vote, and members present were enrolled into the new post.
The following initial officers who comprise the Post Executive Committee were selected:
COMMANDER.................... Wayne K. Watson
1st VICE COMMANDER..... Charles A. Cyrus, Sr.
2d VICE COMMANDER..... John E. Schmidt, Jr.
(John has since resigned and Ben Balding was appointed 2d Vice Commander on 6 August 2009)
ADJUTANT................................ Richard White
FINANCE OFFICER............... Ray House
JUDGE ADVOCATE............ Lorenzo Thomas
PROVOST MARSHALL.... Bryce C. Thornton
These officers were sworn in by PDC McRoberts with assistance by James Lawlor, Sr.
The next meeting date was set for the same place at 1930 hrs. on
Thursday, 6 August 2009, and the first Thursday of each month was set
as the post's regular meeting date.
The charter meeting was adjourned at approximately 1200 hrs. by post commander Wayne K. Watson.
